We want to end this women's month by sharing insights from some of our powerful female EWB-SA leaders.

Some of the takeaways from these ladies were:
- Always be yourself and back yourself.
- No idea is ever wrong.
- Network, network, network.
- Many NPO organisations such as EWB-SA can give you platforms to grow yourself whilst helping your community.

This month we learnt a great deal from many phenomenal women part of EWB-SA. We thank you and we celebrate you.

Meet our guests!

On the tea table Noma will be joined by two of her fellow EWB-SA board members, Paul Ssali and Vanessa Naicker both remarkable individuals.

Paul Ssali started his EWB-SA journey as the chairperson of the University of Pretoria's EWB chapter.

He is now the chair of the Social Impact and Design portfolio as well as an EWB-SA board member.

Paul is passionate about all forms of community development and engagement, he is a volunteer at the Thuthukisa Community Initiative and is a musician in his church band.

Paul currently works at Aurecon (recently rebranded as @Zutari) as a consulting mechanical engineer.

Vanessa Naicker is possibly the definition of amazing. She has been a practicing professional engineer since 2000'.

Vanessa, also a mechanical engineer has been working for Anglo American for the past 22 years and has held various senior and director positions not only with EWB-SA but also in the mining industry.

She has extensive experience leading as well as managing multi-cultural projects and teams at a global level.

Vanessa is passionate about economic empowerment, education as well as the rights and well-being of children.

We have now launched our Engineering for People Design Challenge in three South African universities! Our first launch was earlier this year in May where we launched with the Chemical Engineering students at the University of Cape Town.

Why is making a prototype so important?

The idea is for you to know if your idea is feasible in an inexpensive way.

This is the question any designer wants to have answered in any project.

Then you may be interested in knowing which parts of the idea prove difficult to implement.

A good prototype will also highlight these unanticipated aspects of your design.

A chance to restructure your idea is gained through this process in order to improve your idea.

Even more valuable is that a prototype allows you to present the idea to your client more clearly.

You’re able to gather feedback which you can incorporate in your final product.

Prototyping doesn’t always need to be expensive.

By simply role playing how the product should be used for instance can reveal many important aspects of what to pay attention to on your product.
